Roseburg Public Schools
ZCS assisted Roseburg Public Schools with completing the SRGP application for the Winchester Elementary School Gymnasium and Library buildings. When grant funding for the effort was awarded, ZCS was retained to perform the seismic rehabilitation design and construction management services.
One of the main challenges of the project was coordinating retrofit strategies around ongoing school operations and minimizing disruption to students and staff. The existing structures had several hidden issues and nonstandard construction details that required adaptive design solutions in the field. The exterior envelope needed significant upgrades, including a complex siding system with multiple canopy roofs and exterior walkways. ZCS collaborated closely with the general contractor to develop a cost-effective plan that allowed for a comprehensive replacement of the entire siding system, enhancing durability, thermal performance, and long-term maintenance for the District beyond the original scope. This teamwork helped the project stay on schedule while making the most of the available funding.
