Klamath Falls Fire Station No.4 Seismic Retrofit and Addition

ZCS assisted the Klamath County Fire District with navigating the Seismic Rehabilitation Grant Program (SRGP) application process. When the application was approved, and grant funds awarded, the District contracted ZCS to lead the rehabilitation effort of Station #4.

The retrofit focused on three main areas: the apparatus bays, the bunk rooms, and the kitchen/living area. The apparatus bays received the necessary structural upgrades, new quick-retracting bay doors, and a new exhaust system. The bunk rooms and living area were demolished and redesigned utilizing district-provided funds. The bunk area was updated into dorm-style rooms, complete with personalized, custom-designed lockers for each firefighter to store their bedding and clothes for each shift. The living/kitchen area were expanded from the original layout and equipped with all new appliances, casework, and food storage for each shift. The renovation also added a back patio to the west of the kitchen. Finally, a front office area was added to separate the public areas from the private living quarters. The office area included a new secure vestibule, front office/meeting room, and chief’s office.

To navigate the complications that come with utilizing both grant and district-provided funds, the team relied on extensive communication and coordination between the owner, CM/GC, and the design team.
