Liberty Elementary School Gym Seismic Retrofit

Funded by the Oregon Seismic Rehabilitation Grant Program (SRGP), the Liberty Elementary Gym Retrofit project consisted of strengthening the roof and wall elements, allowing them to support the necessary seismic loads.

To strengthen the structure, the existing walls were sheathed with plywood, and unnecessary, heavy ceiling elements were removed. With these changes in mind, ZCS reevaluated the existing heavy timber wood trusses and determined that they were now adequate to resist gravity and seismic loading forces. These improvements made the building safer and also allowed the Tillamook School District to provide a new, inviting, and fun atmosphere for students with fresh interior and exterior paint, new interior finishes, lighting, and a new gymnasium flooring. These updates allow the gym to remain a bright spot in the Tillamook community.
